ManosOsc

Great for live control of sound and video! Track your hands and fingers using the Leap Motion Controller and output coordinates over OSC (Open Sound Control). Use the default OSC message format in your own projects, or choose a format used by your favorite applications--including Isadora and Animata. For animators, there's the unique ability to record scripts for After Effects and Maya. And there's MIDI support too!

Using OSC, you can control nearly every VJ/live graphics and sound app around--Max/MSP/Jitter, Ableton Live (with Max for Live), PureData, VDMX, TouchDesigner, Modul8, Resolume, VVVV, Quartz Composer, and more--with far more precision than MIDI. A wide range of other software also supports OSC, from game authoring environments like Unity to creative-coding frameworks like Processing, openFrameworks, and Cinder.

The latest update adds the option to enable fixed hand positions in the settings--a popular request.

What's New

Version 1.1.6
  • Fixed hand positions option added to settings

I have read your answer to the previous post that reports the same behaviour but I still cannot obtain any MIDI message from Manos. I think that I have tried all the possible options, MIDI links and MIDI hosts : can you help ? OSC works but I need MIDI ! Systems : Windows 7 to 10.

Unlike OS X, Windows doesn't come set up out of the box for inter-application MIDI. Fortunately this can be fixed with free software; follow this tutorial: http://fox-gieg.com/tutorials/2016/inter-application-midi-win/

  • Issue with Java

Hey, having the issue where I'm just getting a blank screen. Already tried running as admin, uninstalling and reinstalling java, and even installing an old version of java, and none of that worked. Any idea how to fix this issue? Will update rating once this issue is worked out. Edit: Still haven't figured it out, but Nick is extremely fast with support

OSX. I can see OSC is working when I try to connect to it via something like OSCalculator, but Resolume is not picking up any input. Port is set correctly. Any ideas?

  • midi output doesn't work

    by masterpj55 – January 13, 2016

Tried using loopmidi, RTPmidi (and im not installing apples bonjour) and Midi-Yoke. Nothing worked and I got no midi output from the program.. changing midi ports or alike didn't generate any data on the virtual midi ports. This is what I bought the program for so as of now it's pretty much useless to it.... I wanted my finger bends to act as sliders.. fix?

  • ManosOSC with Reaktor

Honestly this could use better documentation. Does anyone know how to use ManosOSC with Reaktor? I have outputs showing in the program but not sure how to properly select which index to route. Also I'd love to see a sample for how to implement it's output into Processing. the sample executable that came with it doesn't work all the time.

Thanks for the feedback--hope you find the documentation's improved. Current versions include source code for the Processing receiver example, too.

  • Custom OSC message

Is it possible to change the OSC string?

    by Nick Fox-Gieg AnimationNovember 4
You can edit the settings file to change between several naming conventions, but you can't set arbitrary names. A common request, if you need the same base name for all with just an incremented number, use the Isadora naming format. Another option is to reroute the OSC messages using a utility like OSCulator (OS X). That can also be done quickly in some destination apps, Jitter (and Live with Max for Live) and PD for example.
