Multi-Dimensional MIDI/OSC/CopperLan Expression Through Hand Gestures

Please contact us through the product website if you need assistance with using GECO. We'll get back to you as quickly as possible. Additionally, on the website you'll find an extensive collection of video tutorials to help you get started and a user forum to exchange tips and tricks.

GECO is one of the easiest and most powerful solutions to interact with MIDI/OSC/CopperLan through touchless control. Our custom multi-staged processing engine ensures an extremely low processing overhead and near zero latency, while still providing you with beautiful real-time visual feedback and powerful customization capabilities. GECO has been designed for live performance and quick configuration during rehearsal by industry professionals that have years of experience with high-speed low-latency electronic music software.

GECO doesn't produce or manipulate sound directly, its purpose is to control other software or hardware that understands MIDI, OSC or CopperLan.

  • 40 different control streams with both hands
  • Any control stream can be mapped to MIDI CC, Channel Pressure, Pitchbend and Pitchwheel messages on 16 different channels
  • High-resolution 14-bit MIDI support with customizable fine message number
  • High-resolution OSC support with customizable paths and OSC server selection
  • Full support for CopperLan data output, assignment, learning and mapping storage
  • Tunable gesture boundaries with support for defining dead zones around the center positions
  • Instantly switch between related control streams by opening or closing your hands
  • Carefully designed GUI for an immediate overview of the active MIDI mappings
  • Real-time low-latency visual feedback of your hand movements and MIDI data
  • Integrated virtual MIDI port on MacOSX, additional freely available software can be used to send MIDI to other applications on Windows
  • Connects to any known MIDI output port on your computer, for instance hardware synthesizers, on both MacOSX and Windows
  • Fully customizable user interface (colours, graphical elements, background image)
  • Flexible document management that can be loaded while performing gestures
  • High performance and near-zero latency engine with virtually no CPU impact when the real-time visualizations are hidden
  • MIDI decimation setting to allow integration with legacy hardware that has limited MIDI bandwidth
  • Advanced data output tuning with range inversion, minimum and maximum boundaries, distribution curves, attack and decay times

What's New

Version 1.3.1
  • Prevent crashes when additional monitors are added or removed while GECO is running.
  • Integrated automated crash monitoring and reporting system for MacOSX.

Version 1.2.3 had the following improvements:

  • Added support for swipe gestures in the quick start tutorial.
  • Updated Leap Motion libraries to the latest version.
  • Minor stability improvements.

Version 1.2.2 had the following improvements:

  • Added support for OSC decimation in the document settings.
  • Added application preference to optionally limit the FPS when GECO is running in the background.
  • Added live view option to hide the data input rendering.

Version 1.2.1 had the following improvements:

  • Switched OSC data back to single precision instead of double precision, since many servers don't support it.
  • Fixes to OSC minimum and maximum data output calculation.
  • Fixes to attack and decay for hand presence gesture.
  • Invert setting now acts directly on the data input, before any calculations, instead of in the middle of the chain.

Version 1.2.0 had the following improvements:

  • Every gesture can now individually be configured to disable open or closed detection by clicking on the hand icons.
  • Added document setting to use both hands, always the left hand or always the right hand. This is reflected in the entire GUI.
  • Every gesture now has an advanced pop-up dialog, accessible by clicking on the three dots:
    • support for 14-bit MIDI output.
    • support for output data minimum and maximum boundaries to limit the value range.
    • support for tunable output data attack and decay times to make the start and end smoother.
    • support for fully tunable output data distribution curve.
    • support for inverting the data output values.
  • Added support for negative rest values of the data output format can handle these.
  • Added support for an automatically resized background image, configurable through the document settings.
  • Added support for disabling/enabling the grid lines on the real-time visualization.
  • Fixes to data output visualization when switching between MIDI, OSC or CopperLan.
  • Performance improvements to real-time GUI rendering.
  • Fixes to gesture axis boundaries when the left and right hand settings would wrongly influence each-other.
  • Fixes to document saving, which could crash on some Windows machines.
  • Fixes to gesture view rendering window is dragged across screens with different DPIs.

Hi, I want to use the app on another computer, but I have the message "You've already installed this app on the maximum number of devices". If I put the first one in the App Home's trash it doesn't change anything. How can I reset or delete it from previous computers to allow a "fresh" new install ? Thanks !

Thanks for reaching out, have you tried launching the airspace application on your computer? You should see a blue arrow in the top right corner of the Geco MIDI application icon.

Great App, I use it with Jeskola Buzz (an amazing software, with incredible control machines), the modes " closed open" are perfect, sound is a 4 dimensions space, we can control 3 easily with just one hand (dynamic, frequency and spectrum). Very intuitive, very ergonomic, you can make a complete new setup in 2 minutes, so, thanks for these nice pieces of code, and this friendly price. What is the best lighting for the Leap Motion?

If you contact GECO support through the contact email address, we can help you track down your problem. We didn't change anything in the MIDI handling in the last update, nothing should have changed. It's probably a configuration matter on your system.

I'm trying to run it, it invariably shows the dialog saying "To run this app for the first time, you need to be connected to the Internet. Please check your connection and try again." and then quits. Of course, my connection is alright.

A well thought out app that is really useful for anyone with midi devices, not just a demonstration of leap technology. Its easy to setup, has great support by the developer. Thanks Geco!

  • A new chapter in music making

Finally a software dedicated to make natural organic movement by the body a key piece of music making. Geco has a straightforward interface and takes minutes to learn and master. The support and community around Geco is reason alone to get the software and see where it takes us in the future.

  • Everything I'd hoped a MIDI Leap app would be!

    5 of 5
    by MartinH76 – July 30, 2013

I pre-ordered the Leap Motion specifically with plans to use it as a MIDI controller. This the only MIDI app I've tried for Leap but I can't see myself needing to try any others - this does everything I wanted and more. The fact that Geco is automatically picked up as a MIDI input was a nice surprise, and the configuration options for gestures are simple, effective and well thought out (Rest Value is really useful!) Highly recommended, especially for experimental/electronica artists.
